The Premier's Sustainability Awards 2009

Thursday, 16 April, 2009
Palladium Ballroom - Crown Casino - Melbourne, Victoria.

The theme for the 2009 Premier’s Sustainability Awards, “Innovation”, generated a truly innovative event.  Eight months of planning culminated in Crown’s Head Chef, Markus Werner, creating a 5 course menu from sustainable, organic, local produce that earned a nomination for a Restaurant and Catering Victoria Award for Excellence.

The night’s theme was visually reinforced with 700 recycled cardboard boxes creating a cityscape that housed displays from the five award winners of 2008 and the fifteen nominees for 2009.  Nestled amongst the “buildings” were four stages where a live show by local musicians showcased Australia's multi-cultural talent.

Guests were encouraged to take home and sample the table centre pieces which comprised of a cornucopia of sustainable produce artistically lit by tea candles in recycled sandblasted glass jars.

Host Rove McManus brought a sense of fun to the awards and his onstage banter with Premier John Brumby proved to be a highlight of the night.
