Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre / Myer Mother's Day ConcertThursday, 6 May, 2010
Bourke St Mall - Melbourne, Victoria.
The sun finally broke
through the cold, wet Melbourne morning in time to welcome Olivia Newton-John
to the Bourke St Mall for her Mother's Day Concert for Myer.
Myer CEO Bernie
Brookes, ably assisted by Myer Ambassador Jennifer Hawkins, presented Olivia
with a cheque for $70,000 to help with the establishment of the Olivia
Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre's wonderful new facility at the
Austin Hospital.
Along with Jennifer Hawkins, other Myer Ambassadors Rebecca
Twigley and Kris Smith rattled tins amongst the crowd raising even more funds
to add to this wonderful total.
The city came to a
halt while effervescent host Catriona Rowntree chatted to the thoroughly
entertained 3,000 strong crowd.
A special treat was Juan Jackson, the star of
Miss Saigon and The King and I, giving the first Australian public performance
of "Till I Hear You Sing", the hit from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Love
Never Dies.
The show also included a high octane performance
by the cast of Fame – featuring Timomatic and SYTYCD winner Talia Fowler
and, whilst these acts wowed the crowd, it was Olivia they had come to see. Her performance accompanied by Chong Lim and his band was absolutely incredible.
Beginning with Xanadu and including a duet with James Reyne of
"You're The One That I Want", Olivia held the crowd in the palm of
her hand. Her encore "Grace and Gratitude" a song close to the heart
of her charity, proved to be the perfect finish to a perfect day.
